In one week, the number of federative units in Brazil rose from 20 to 23 with an increase in cases of Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SRAG), according to the new InfoGripe bulletin, released by the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz) this Thursday (8) .
The survey shows that the advance of Covid-19 continues in all age groups, especially among adults.
In the list of increased long-term infections are Alagoas, Bahia, Ceará, Distrito Federal, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraíba, Paraná, Pernambuco, Piauí, Rio Grande do Norte, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, São Paulo, Sergipe and Tocantins.
According to Fiocruz, in the case of Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo, the growth curve decreases and indicates the formation of a plateau. In northern states, however, there is a smaller impact on records of hospitalizations due to respiratory problems.
The new InfoGripe is based on the epidemiological week between November 27th and December 3rd, with cases recorded in the Influenza Epidemiological Surveillance Information System until December 5th.
The advance of the coronavirus is also shown in the concentration of patients with SARS. Covid-19 went from 71.3% to 76.7% of confirmed cases in the last four weeks.
In addition, influenza A represented 2.8% of patients; influenza B, 0.1%; and respiratory syncytial virus, 9.5%. The latter is observed in children, especially in the states of São Paulo, Paraná, Santa Catarina and Rio Grande do Sul.
Given this scenario, InfoGripe coordinator Marcelo Gomes highlights the importance of preventive measures, especially vaccination against the coronavirus and the use of masks.
“It is important to maintain care because we are entering the period in which we increase our exposure with the end of year celebrations”, he advises.
