Increase in hospitalizations in SP is substantial, says Gabbardo

the anchor of CNN Daniela Lima spoke with the executive coordinator of the scientific committee of São Paulo, João Gabbardo, this Thursday (23), about the future scenario with the circulation of the Ômicron variant of the new coronavirus in the state.

Gabbardo stated that, at this time, there is already a significant increase in hospitalizations.

According to Gabbardo, an increase in Covid-19 cases is expected in January, due to the arrival of Ômicron. He bets, however, that vaccination and the use of masks will help to contain the advance of the variant.

ICU beds

Regarding the occupation of ICU beds, Gabbardo stated that there is still no concern.

“Today, we have 20% of ICU beds in the state of São Paulo occupied. Of the total number of beds that can be exclusive to Covid or respiratory diseases, only 6%. There is still no concern about the ICU”, he said.

Despite this, the coordinator of the scientific committee defended social isolation and stated that the ideal is to avoid agglomerations at the end of the year, and also at the beginning of next year, with the arrival of Ômicron.
