A rapidly growing forest fire in the Eastern Sierra region of California burned 1,000 acres and led to evacuations in nearby counties. The information was released by the California Forest and Fire Department (Cal Fire) on Sunday (30).
Evacuation orders were issued to several communities, including Laws in Inyo County, Chalfant in Mono County and the White Mountain Estates neighborhood, Cal Fire declared. A 30 mile stretch of the US.6 road has also been closed.
There have been no immediate reports of injuries or structural damage so far. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
More than 200 firefighters were called to combat the fire, but 35 -mile bursts at Bishop airport have paralyzed some flame -fighting aircraft and complicated containment efforts, according to Cal Fire.
The National Weather Service predicted southwest winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts of up to 65 mph on Monday (31) to the region.
Earlier this year, California’s largest city, Los Angeles, suffered the worst fires in its history, killing 28 people and damaging or destroying more than 16,000 structures.
