Incredible crowding images: Thousands of people throwing cow dung at each other

Pictures of incredible crowds in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic were recorded in India, where thousands of people gathered to fly to each other… manure cow as part of a strange festival.

The celebration, known as pidakala samara, took place in the village of Kairuppala in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, according to the Daily Mail.

It marks a mythological marriage dispute between two gods that was resolved by the village elders, according to legend, and the villagers believe that re-representing the conflict and its peaceful completion each year will bring peace, health and prosperity.

Although the rate of coronavirus infections has increased in India, the festival was allowed to take place. The country today reported 200,000 new cases and more than 1,000 deaths for the second day in a row.

Dr Shashank Joshi, who is leading the fight against coronavirus in Mumbai, described the rise as a “tsunami” that gripped the government completely unprepared.

The health system is on the verge of collapse, he said, with hospitals calling for important drugs and oxygen to keep patients alive.
