Police handcuffed 14 people in India after the revelation of an incredible fraud, where they were giving seawater to people instead of coronavirus vaccine.
At least 12 fake vaccination programs were conducted in Mumbai from May to June. In fact, the victims were charged to be vaccinated.
More than 2,500 people have fallen victim to a scam organized by doctors and medical staff, which allegedly used access to hospitals to create fake certificates and take syringes.
“Doctors used salt water and administered it,” said Mumbai Police Department official Vishal Thakur. “They did the same thing at every fake vaccination center.
We arrested doctors. “They used a hospital that provided fake certificates, vials and syringes.”
According to data from the Ministry of Health of India, 30.62 million infections and 403,281 deaths due to coronavirus have been recorded. Some experts, however, believe that the real numbers are much larger and practice pressure to the Authorities to state what is really going on.
Less than 5% of India’s population has been fully vaccinated, according to data from John Hopkins University, and it will take time for the vaccines to be distributed to smaller Indian cities.
In the case of the Mumbai fraud, police are conducting additional investigations into the medical staff behind it and more arrests are expected.
The police investigation began when the victims of the fraud began to suspect that their vaccination certificates were invalid and conveyed these concerns to the Authorities.
