In India, the mark of 42 million cases of the new coronavirus was exceeded today, while the deaths broke the barrier of one thousand for the fifth consecutive day.
The Federal Ministry of Health announced that in the previous 24 hours 1,059 patients died due to complications of COVID-19 and 127,952 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed.
The death toll from the 1.35 billion-strong pandemic in Asia has officially reached 501,114 dead out of a total of 42,080,664 infections. This is the fourth heaviest death toll and the second highest number of infections on the planet.
The so-called active cases are 1.33 million, although they decreased by 103,921 in 24 hours.
Experts point out that in fact, the number of victims of the pandemic is much higher than what the authorities announce. Scientists have estimated in a study published in the journal Science recently that deaths due to COVID-19 in India had reached 3 million by mid-2021. The government called this study completely unfounded.
