The statues of the deity depict a young girl with many hands. The baby’s mother, named Sarju Devi, 25, is said to be thrilled.
Her brother, who has not been named, told local media: “My sister gave birth to a baby who has 26 fingers and we consider him to be the incarnation of Dholagarh Devi. We are very happy».
The baby’s father, Gopal Bhattacharya, is a police officer in the Central Reserve Police Force and is said to be overjoyed as well.
Dr. V.S. Sonny, a doctor at the hospital where the baby was born, said: “There is absolutely nothing wrong with having 26 fingers, but it is a genetic abnormality. The girl is otherwise perfectly healthy».
It is currently unknown if the family plans to have their newborn girl undergo surgery to reduce the number of fingers on each limb.
