India: crooks tried to sell their “Aladdin lamp”

Obsessed with his dreams of greatness, an Indian doctor from Uttar Pradesh believed in the fables of high-profile crooks. However, the snake was difficult to swallow: two individuals came to him to sell him an “Aladdin lamp”. An object which, like the lantern taken from the tale, would house a genius capable of bringing wealth and health to its holder. Without thinking twice, the gullible victim immediately validated this transaction at 200,000 dollars, even advancing the sum of 41,600 dollars, report our colleagues from the BBC, Sunday 1is November 2020.

To finish convincing the doctor, the two crooks even invoked before him the spirit of the lamp. “Little by little, they started talking to me about a baba [un personnage tiré de la mythologie, NDLR], who they said had also come to their home. They started to brainwash me and asked me to meet this famous baba, ”confirms the dupe in his complaint. The man ends up having proof in the flesh during a visit to his benefactors. Convinced, he leaves with the object supposed to bring him “wealth, health and good fortune”. He will later realize that it was in fact one of the defendants disguised as Aladdin.

The crooks arrested

The two crooks were arrested by Indian law enforcement. A senior Meerut police official, Amit Rai, claimed that these individuals were believed to have deceived other families in the same way. It must be admitted: there is genius in this deception.
