India: New negative record with over 260,000 cases of coronavirus

For the first time, the daily increase in its cases coronavirus in India exceeded the limit of 260,000.

A total of 261,500 new cases of COVID-19 were recorded in India in the last 24 hours, with the total number of incidents in the country now amounting to 14,788,109, according to data announced today by the Ministry of Health.

At the same time, 1,501 deaths were recorded, bringing the death toll to 177,150.

Active cases have reached 1,801,316, while 12,809,643 people have recovered and been discharged from hospitals across the country.

Daily figures continue to hit record highs and the government has imposed new measures to stem the spread. Some school exams were canceled while others were postponed due to the deteriorating situation.

India launched a nationwide vaccination campaign in January and so far more than 122 million people have been vaccinated in the country.

Meanwhile, the government has stepped up diagnostic testing facilities, and more than 266 million tests have already been performed.

In the capital of India, New Delhi, one of the outbreaks of the pandemic, 24,375 new cases and 167 deaths were recorded yesterday.

So far, 11,960 people have died in the city, local health officials said.

As part of the precautionary measures, a traffic ban has been imposed in New Delhi from Friday night until Monday morning.
