A couple in the north is suing his only son and his bride Indiablaming them for the fact that after six years of marriage they have not yet had a child.
According to a BBC report, Sanjeev and Sadhana Prasad, aged 61 and 57, claim that they exhausted their savings to raise their only sonboth for his training as a pilot and for his good marriage.
Now they are demanding compensation worth almost 600,000 euros if they do not see a grandchild within the next year.
The highly unusual lawsuit was filed on the grounds of “mental harassment”.
In particular, the complaint reports that the family spent all of their savings in 2006 to send their son to pilot school in the US in 2006.
The son returned to India in 2007, but lost his job and his family had to support him financially for more than two years, according to the Times of India.
Shrey Sagar, 35, finally got a job as a pilot. His parents say they arranged his marriage to Shubhangi Sinha, now 31, in 2016, hoping they would have a “grandchild to play with” when they retire.
Parents say they paid for a wedding reception at a five-star hotel, a $ 80,000 luxury car and a honeymoon abroad.
“My son has been married for six years, but they are not planning to have a baby yet”, says the unfortunate father, according to the BBC. “At least if we had a grandchild, our pain would be unbearable.”
The couple’s lawyer stated that the couple asked for the money “due to mental cruelty”.
“It is every parent’s dream to become a grandparent. They waited for years to become grandparents “.
The couple’s application is expected to be heard on May 17. Their son and his wife have not commented on the lawsuit against them.
