India urges Tesla not to sell Chinese-made EVs in South Asia

Indian Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has called on Tesla to stop selling its Chinese-made electric vehicles to other countries in South Asia. This information appeared against the background of Teska entering the Indian market.

Nitin Gadkari said the American electric vehicle maker should “make cars in India, sell them in India and export them from India.” In addition, the brand must also rely on local suppliers. The minister also added that Tesla vehicles in India will cost around $ 46,600 and the local government will try to help the brand popularize its electric vehicles in the country.

India urges Tesla not to sell Chinese-made EVs in South Asia

Back in August, Tesla said it had received permission to manufacture or import four of its electric vehicle models in India. The company is currently manufacturing its vehicles at factories in the United States and in Shanghai, China, and is also starting assembly at a plant in Germany.

Meanwhile, India is also trying to diversify its supply chains away from China due to recent friction caused by military clashes in border regions last year.
