Indian experts warn: Delta strain of coronavirus, highly contagious, infects and vaccinated with one dose

The need for global action to limit the spread of the new Delta variant strain coronavirus underlines a group of Indian experts.

In a report published today, Indian scientists warn that the variant strain of coronavirus first detected in India is highly contagious and can infect people who have already contracted the disease. covid-19 or have been vaccinated with only one dose of vaccine.

The variant Delta strain, as named by the World Health Organization, is estimated to be 50% more contagious than Indian scientists from the SARS-CoV-2 Genetics Consortium and the National Center for Disease Control, as reported by AMPE, announced with the strain that was first located in Britain.

Coronavirus: Some vaccinations do not provide protection

They warned that “previous infection (…) and partial vaccination are not enough to prevent its spread, as happened in New Delhi, and a strong global health response is needed to reduce it.”

The variant Delta strain has been identified in more than 50 countries.

The number of new cases of covid-19 has been steadily declining in recent weeks in India’s major cities, but rural areas are still in the midst of a devastating second wave.

Experts have warned that the country needs to step up its vaccination campaign to avoid further outbreaks of the epidemic.

Coronavirus: Criticism of the Monti government

The government of Prime Minister Narendra Monti has come under fire for slowing down the immunization campaign and has begun talks with major foreign vaccine companies to boost India’s reserves as domestic companies work to increase production.

Doctors and government officials estimate that Vaccination is the key to resuming some economic activities, as the country has been in lockdown for weeks.

Some states, such as Gujarat and New Delhi, are gradually easing restrictions. In Gujarat, authorities are now allowing shops and other commercial establishments to remain open for longer periods of time.

“With the states showing prudence in opening up, the economic recovery from this wave of the epidemic will be more gradual than last year,” said Darren O, an economist at Capital Economics in Singapore.

“But the slow vaccination campaign means that a quick opening will increase the threat of new epidemic waves, possibly with more contagious strains,” he added.

India today announced 132,364 new cases of coronavirus for the past 24 hours, while the number of deaths increased in the same period by 2,714, the lowest level in more than a year.

A total of 28.6 million people in the country have been infected with covid-19, the second-highest number worldwide, with 340,702 deaths, according to the health ministry.

Experts estimate that the real numbers are even higher.
