The Indian Navy has announced the recapture of the MV Ruen by Somali pirates off the Indian coast and the release of the crew, ending the three-month occupation of the Maltese-flagged dry cargo ship. “During the last 40 hours,” the Indian warship, through coordinated actions, captured the ship and forced its 35 pirates to surrender,” the Indian Navy announced to X, clarifying that the 17 crew members were safely removed from the ship. The Maritime Security Center in the Horn of Africa (MSCHOA) has counted six confirmed cases of piracy and three attempted piracy attacks.
