An Indian passenger, who was on the plane that crashed in Nepal on Sunday (15), broadcast the exact moment of the crash in a live on Facebook. Of the 72 people on board, at least 68 died. Four remain missing.
The video indicates that passengers and crew were calm and there were no signs of emergency or any other abnormality on the flight. The man, who was filming with his cell phone, was with three other friends.
In the footage, it is possible to see that they are all calm and laughing, when, suddenly, the plane makes a sudden movement, the cell phone falls and the screen goes black. In the sequence, it is possible to see that a fire takes over the aircraft.
The burning wreckage is momentarily visible on the screen before fading to black. No voice can be heard after that.
According to The Guardian newspaper, a close friend of the four men seen in the Facebook broadcast confirmed the authenticity of the video.
He stated that he intended to join his four friends on the trip to Nepal but had to stay home after the death of a relative. During the trip, he had spoken to friends several times via video call, including a few hours before the accident.
It is Nepal’s deadliest accident since 1992, the Aviation Safety Network database showed, when a Pakistan International Airlines Airbus A300 crashed into a hillside on approach to Kathmandu, killing all 167 people on board.
The plane made contact with Seti Gorge airport at 10:50 am (02:05 am Brasília time), the aeronautical authority said in a statement. “Then it fell.”
