Authorities in the Indian state of Maharashtra have entered into an agreement with local firm LegitDoc to use the Ethereum blockchain system to validate diplomas.
The Maharashtra State Council for Skills Development (MSBSD) is trying to tackle the growing problem of counterfeiting education diplomas. At the same time, while diplomas will continue to be checked manually, but next year MSBSD hopes to completely switch to the digital verification method.
As the CEO of LegitDoc, Neil Martis, said, other states in India are also showing interest in the blockchain system:
“We are actively negotiating with the Department of Information Technology and Biotechnology of the Karnataka government. The Telangana Department of School Education and the Maharashtra Department of Higher and Technical Education are also interested in the system. ”
Some Indian institutions are also investigating the possibility of using a similar solution to combat document fraud.
MSBSD Chairman Dr. Anil Jadhao stressed that India has seen a dramatic increase in government counterfeiting over the past decade. This often results in both significant financial and reputational losses for stakeholders.
Previously, the blockchain for verification and issuance of diplomas was planned to be used in Brazil.
