Indian Wearable Market Growth In 2020 Three-Digit According to IDC

The Indian market for wearable electronic devices showed impressive growth in 2020 – 144.3% compared to 2019. In total, 36.4 million devices were shipped in a year. Such data is contained in a report prepared by specialists of the analytical company IDC. Analysts note that India was the only country in the top 20 to see three-digit growth in wearable device sales in 2020. Note that this is the third largest market for wearable devices in the world.

Most of the growth has been driven by the popularity of smart headphones, watches and bracelets. More precisely, sales of smart headphones for the year increased from 8.484 million units to 30.405 million units, that is, by 258.4%. This is the largest segment of the market. It is equal to 83.6%. For comparison: in 2019, smart headphones accounted for 57.0% of the market. Experts attribute the rise in popularity of headphones to the expansion of their use, in particular for virtual communication and learning. The most popular were the fully wireless models (TWS), which sales increased tenfold. In 2020, 11.3 million units were sold. Sales were boosted by a drop in the average selling price from $ 110 in 2019 to $ 45 in 2020.

Bracelets account for 9.2% of the market, smartwatches – 7.3%. In 2019, these segments were equal to 34.1% and 7.4%, respectively. Devices of other categories, which occupied 1.5% in 2019, practically disappeared from the market in 2020.
