Indications of a new mobility in the market of exploration and production of hydrocarbons are recorded recently, despite the negative developments in the big picture of the market and the postponement of seismic surveys in the region of Crete by the consortium Total, ExxonMobil, ELPE.

The beginning was made with the seismic surveys carried out in the Ionian in recent weeks by Hellenic Petroleum, for the block of the Gulf of Kyparissia and the plot in the southwest of Corfu.

This move came as a surprise given that hydrocarbon exploration is not a top priority for the ELPE group, which recently unveiled its new strategy, with an emphasis on carbonation.

However, ELPE proceeded to conduct seismic surveys, giving the position that the specific market and activity does not go beyond the scope of the group’s development goals.

However, apart from the investigations of Hellenic Petroleum, government officials also appear to send encouraging messages about the future of the hydrocarbon market in our country.

The recent position of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Energy Alexandra Sdoukou during the big international conference on hydrocarbons in Egypt was indicative.

“We need more research and gas production to reduce energy dependence on non-EU countries, with which we may not have the same view on all geopolitical and security issues,” she said at EGYPS 2022, one of the largest conferences. oil industry internationally, Ms. Sdoukou.

She added that Greece remains to a large extent unexplored country, especially in large and very deep sea areas, while she also referred to the recent seismic surveys carried out in blocks in western parts of the country in the Ionian.

“We remain open and we want to encourage the participation of new international companies, in order to build strong alliances with existing investors,” said Ms. Sdoukou. Finally, it is worth noting that the Hellenic Hydrocarbon Management Company and the head of Aristophanes Stefatos also participated in EGYPS 2022.
