Pope Francis was welcomed on Saturday (7) by members of indigenous tribes at the APEC Haus, a conference center built for the 2018 Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum in Papua New Guinea.
Upon arrival, Francisco was greeted with a dance by a group of Papua New Guineans wearing traditional costumes with feather headdresses and beaded skirts.
The pope, who uses a wheelchair due to knee and back pain, shook hands and exchanged gifts with local residents and also signed a visitors’ book at Government House.
The pope, who visited the country as part of an ambitious 12-day four-nation trip, said Papua New Guinea’s natural resources were “intended by God” for the entire community.
