Indirect disapproval of Tsavousoglou from the USA: The sovereignty of the Greek islands is not in question

There is no question of questioning the sovereignty of the Greek islands in the Aegean, the State Department said on the occasion of the recent statements of the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu. Answering a question on the Hellas Journal website regarding the Turkish minister’s position, a State Department spokesman clarified that “the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries must be respected and protected. Greek sovereignty over these islands is unquestionable.” .

It is recalled that Mevlüt Çavuşoλουlu gave an interview to the Turkish TRT network during which he raised the issue of demilitarization of the islands once again, saying that Turkey has sent a letter to the United Nations on this issue. However, the Turkish minister went a step further, arguing that the militarization of the islands violates the international treaties that determined their concession and therefore a question of sovereignty may arise.
