Individual agreements signed by Vale in the Brumadinho case exceed BRL 3 billion

Vale closed more than 6,500 indemnity agreements related to the Brumadinho (MG) dam failure and the removal of people due to an increase in the emergency level of structures, in amounts that exceed R$ 3 billion, the mining company said on Monday. fair (28).

“The advance of indemnities reflects Vale’s commitment to completing the indemnification processes and promoting full reparation,” he added in a statement.

According to Vale, 5,100 civil agreements were signed, covering more than 10,400 people, and 1,400 labor agreements, involving around 2,400 people.

Among the family members of deceased workers, more than 1,700 people have already closed indemnity agreements, with amounts exceeding R$ 1.1 billion. All employees, whether owned or outsourced, killed in the Brumadinho tragedy have had at least one family member with an agreement signed.

In order for people to be able to close out-of-court compensation agreements with more agility and equality, Vale signed a term of commitment with the Public Defender’s Office of Minas Gerais for civil compensation cases.

In the labor sphere, indemnities are paid after adherence to agreements signed with the Public Ministry of Labor and union entities.

These terms serve as a parameter for indemnities, providing values, conditions and criteria, and allow the affected people to voluntarily negotiate their indemnities.

The mining company also mentioned the creation of the Comprehensive Assistance Program for the Affected, which offers those affected free access to psychosocial support, financial education, technical support for the purchase of property or for micro-entrepreneurship and agricultural activities.
