Divers search the Sea of Java for 17 fishermen who are missing after their boat capsized after colliding with a cargo ship yesterday Saturday, a spokesman for the search and rescue service said today. Indonesia, of Basarnas.
Fifteen members of the Barokah Jaya fishing crew were rescued after the collision. Five divers are searching for the remaining 17 missing sailors, said Yusuf Latif, a spokesman for the agency.
“We are continuing the search,” Yusuf said, adding that a Basarnas lifeboat had collected the survivors.
The clash took place yesterday at 12:30 (Greek time), Mr. Youssef clarified. The other vessel involved in the incident was the bulk cargo ship Habco Pioneer, with a tonnage of almost 30,000 tons. Both ships have an Indonesian flag.
No injuries were reported and no crew member of Habco Pioneer, owned by PT Habco Primatama, which has mainly trailers and barges, is missing.
