Indonesia: 32 children aged 3-17 dead in soccer match – Victims trampled or suffocated

The number of children killed in the football match in Indonesia has risen to 32 from 17. in which more than 100 people lost their lives. Their ages range from 3 to 17, Nahar, an official at the Ministry of Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection, told Reuters.

After Arema’s 3-2 defeat by Persebaya at the Kanjuruhan Stadium in East Java, Indonesia, clashes broke out between the fans, with the losers storming the pitch and Authorities try to control the crowd with tear gas and wood.

According to East Java Police Chief Niko Afinda, fans were trampled or died of suffocation trying to reach the exits of the stadium, the Athens-Macedonian News Agency reports, citing Reuters.

In a post on Instagram, Indonesia’s security minister revealed that the number of fans at Kanjuruhan Stadium was many thousands higher than its capacity. He said 42,000 tickets had been issued for a stadium with a capacity of 38,000.
