The government’s permission for all high-voltage energy consumers to migrate to the free market, where they negotiate contracts directly with generators and traders, attracted the attention of industries. According to an unprecedented survey by the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), 56% of industries that are connected to high voltage and are in the regulated market, where they are served by distributors, confirmed that there is a possibility of migration from 2024.
In September 2022, the Ministry of Mines and Energy published an ordinance that allows all consumers in the high-voltage market to buy energy from any supplier as of January of next year. The survey was carried out last October, with 2,016 companies, 794 small, 724 medium and 498 large.
The survey points out that, among high voltage companies in the captive market, 7% reported that there is no possibility of change and 37% do not know. The result, says the CNI, shows that the proposal is either still being evaluated, or the companies lack information about the chance of change.
