Industry creates solutions to decarbonize the economy, says CNI president

Brazilian industry has played an important role in the decarbonization of the economy, said Robson Braga de Andrade, president of the National Confederation of Industry (CNI), at the opening of Brazilian Industry Day, this Wednesday (16).

The event took place during the 27th United Nations Conference on Climate Change (COP27), in Egypt.

“In addition to investments in more sustainable production processes, Brazilian industry has been an important provider of solutions for the decarbonization of the economy,” he declared.

“Brazilian industry, which has always played an important role in the country’s development, is essential for expanding investments in clean technologies, creating solutions aimed at consolidating a low-carbon economy and creating quality jobs.”

Andrade cited, as an example, the development of new sources of renewable energy and the production of bioinputs for agriculture, capable of reducing methane emissions in the sector.

During the event at COP27, Andrade came out in defense of a sustainable development plan, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and stimulates the country’s economic growth. For this, he said he is based on four pillars: energy transition, carbon market, circular economy and forest conservation.

In his view, the promotion of sustainability in the industry can bring competitive advantages to companies, in addition to guaranteeing a prominent place in Brazil in relation to the international scenario.

“To encourage the expansion of investments in sustainable models and promote the full development of the bioeconomy in the country, it is necessary to increase the competitiveness of our industry. We must, among other measures, adopt a modern industrial policy that encourages innovation and the production of socio-environmental technologies,” said Andrade.
