The states of Amapá and Rondônia have the lowest vaccination coverage in Brazil, according to data from the Ministry of Health, analyzed by the Covid-19 Observatory of the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation (Fiocruz).
In an interview with CNN Radio, Fiocruz researcher Margareth Portela explained that this disparity cannot be associated with a single cause.
“There are logistical issues, access difficulties, such as the need for boats that take days to reach a given municipality” pondered the Observatory member.
“Just as I also believe that the question of how politicians see the vaccine and make it a priority within their administrations weighs heavily”, he adds.
Margareth Portela recalls that expanding the application of the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine is still a challenge across the country.
The researcher points out that another concern is the low adherence of children to immunization against Covid-19.
“Without a doubt, there was great resistance, a campaign on social networks against the vaccination of children”, he points out.
Portela stated that he considers it important to maintain some health measures, such as charging for the vaccine passport, which, in addition to being protective, encourages vaccination.
