Samsung has released a teaser for a new 50-megapixel image sensor for ISOCELL smartphones. The caption reads “#ISOCELL for everyone” – a hint that the sensor is for low-cost smartphones. It is expected to replace the 48MP sensors used in many entry-level and mid-range Samsung smartphones (and not only Samsung).

The new sensor will bring with it not only more pixels – there will certainly be some qualitative changes. For example, such a sensor will provide better low-light performance compared to 48-megapixel sensors. Perhaps, there will be new modes of video shooting. All details will be revealed on June 10, when the official premiere of the sensor takes place.
