Infinix has announced Future Light-Painting Leather, the world’s first adaptive skin color change technology that responds to ultraviolet light (i.e. the sun’s rays). It will be used in smartphones with a leather frame, the owners of which will be able to literally draw patterns by combining sunlight and shadow.
Future Light-Painting Leather is a reversible color change technology, that is, after some time after the change and the absence of exposure to UV rays, the original color will return. It was made possible by the integration of photochromic polymers, it is their molecular structure that changes from sunlight and any other sources of ultraviolet radiation, which is visually visible as a color change. This solution works passively, that is, it does not require any additional power supplies.
The developers claim that they have overcome the problem of yellowing of the skin – they have changed its structure in such a way that it remains bright even after prolonged use. This did not affect the thickness of the material – it is still thin, which is especially useful in smartphones, which must provide a comfortable grip and reliable protection from impacts. It is not yet known when new products with such skin will be released, but Infinix is working in this direction.
