“Inflation preview”: IPCA-15 accelerates to 1.73% in April, the highest rise for the month since 1995

Considered as an official “inflation preview”, the IPCA-15 (Extended National Consumer Price Index-15) accelerated to 1.73% in April. The number is 0.78 percentage points (pp) higher than the March rate (0.95%), informed the IBGE (Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics) this Wednesday (27).

The institute highlights that this is the highest monthly variation of the indicator since February 2003 (2.19%), in addition to being the highest variation for a month of April since 1995 (1.95%).

In the year, the IPCA-15 accumulates a high of 4.31% and, in 12 months, of 12.03%, above the 10.79% registered in the 12 immediately previous months.

Market analysts had expected a monthly increase of 1.85%. In the 12 months, the expectation pointed to an advance of 12.16%, well above the ceiling of the government’s target for 2022, of 5%.

the groups transport (3.43%) and food products and beverages (2.25%) were the main influences of the April result.

Within the transport group, the gasoline was the biggest highlight, with an increase of 7.51% and the biggest and the individual impact on the index of the month (0.48 pp).

In addition to gasoline, the survey recorded high prices for diesel oil (13.11%), ethanol (6.60%) and vehicular gas (2.28%), reflecting the readjustment in the average price of fuel at refineries.
