Influencer Andrew Tate formally charged with human trafficking and rape in Romania

Romanian prosecutors formally accused, this Tuesday (20), the influencer Andrew Tate of human trafficking, rape and formation of a criminal gang to sexually exploit women. His brother Tristan and two other people are also on trial.

The Tate brothers and two Romanian suspects are under house arrest pending a criminal investigation into abuses committed against seven women – allegations they have denied.

The four were held in police custody from December 29 to March 31 before a Bucharest court placed them under house arrest.

Andrew Tate was also accused of raping one of the victims, while his brother Tristan was accused of inciting others to violence.

Andrew Tate’s spokesman said on Tuesday that we “embrace” the opportunity a planned trial presents to demonstrate the innocence of Tate, her brother Tristan and two suspects, as well as vindicate her reputation.

The trial will not begin immediately.

Under Romanian law, the case is sent to the court’s preliminary chamber, where a judge has 60 days to inspect the case files to ensure legality.

The Tate brothers, former kickboxers who hold both US and British nationality with millions of online followers, are the highest profile suspects to be sent to trial in Romania for human trafficking.

Prosecutors said the brothers recruited their victims by seducing them and falsely claiming they wanted a relationship or marriage.
