Influencer denounces being a victim of racism in a nightclub: “expensive slave”

Digital influencer Douglas Ferreira de Paula, 33 years old, known as Dodô, reported being a victim of racism inside a nightclub in Belo Horizonte (MG). The crime would have occurred in the early hours of Sunday (1st).

According to Douglas, he was at the nightclub with friends when a 27-year-old man, whose name was not disclosed, approached and said: “You have a beautiful smile, if you were a slave, you would be very expensive.”

The victim also stated that he was unresponsive at the time. “I was completely frozen when I heard that sentence,” said Douglas.

The man then walked away, but soon returned and tried to justify his speech by saying: “I have a degree in history and I learned in college that black people who had the most beautiful teeth were the most expensive”.

The Military Police were called and, upon arrival of the military, according to the victim, the suspect stated that he had not committed any of the offenses. He, a friend of his, the victim and five other friends of Douglas were taken to the police station.

The influencer shared the case on social media. He said he was frustrated that the suspect had been released.

“We arrived at the police station at 3am and left at 10am. Summary: the guy, the racist, was not arrested. He was detained and the police’s justification was that there were not enough elements to justify his arrest in the act. We had six witnesses who witnessed the incident but they were not enough evidence. I felt disappointed, sad, I cried, it was horrible.” said Douglas

Wanted by CNN the Minas Gerais Civil Police said that “after judicial police procedures, he [o suspeito] he was released because there were no grounds that would justify the ratification of the arrest in the act and he continues to be investigated.”
