Influencer is targeted by police in MG for involvement in gambling and raffles

A 25-year-old digital influencer – whose name was not disclosed – was the target of an operation carried out by the Civil Police of Minas Gerais last Tuesday (22) in Belo Horizonte. She is being investigated for promoting gambling and raffles, which were published on the investigated person’s profile on social media, where she has approximately 214 thousand followers.

During the operation, agents carried out search and seizure warrants at the woman’s residence, where they seized vehicles, jewelry and other luxury goods.

According to the police, investigations began in July this year, after reports that the suspect was promoting gambling and promoting raffles in her name, with prizes of cash and medical beauty services.

Surveys carried out by the team from the 1st Specialized Police Station in Cyber Crime Investigation, belonging to the State Department for Combating Corruption and Fraud (Deccof) showed that the influencer made a profit from the dissemination of online betting platforms hosted abroad and illegally promoted raffles. On social media, the investigated woman still flaunted luxurious goods and international trips, showing evidence of crimes, in addition to money laundering.

The suspect’s Financial Intelligence Report, issued by the Financial Activities Control Council (Coaf), pointed out atypical movements, of around R$2 million, which would be incompatible with the influencer’s financial capacity.

Given the information gathered in the investigations, delegate Arthur Benício, head of the 1st Police Station Specialized in Cyber Crime Investigation, requested the issuance of a search and seizure warrant for the residence of the person being investigated, the kidnapping of one of the vehicles and breach of data confidentiality telematics.

According to the agents, during the execution of the search and seizure warrants, the influencer confirmed that she obtained the goods through the promotion of gambling and raffles. She allegedly tried to hide the location of a car and a watercraft, stating that they had already been sold and would no longer be in her possession. During the search, police found one of the vehicles in the residence’s garage and another in a mechanic’s workshop.

She reportedly stated that she received around R$40,000 per month for activities carried out on social media. Half would come from gambling platforms, without considering the profit obtained from raffles.

At the end of the operation, agents seized a notebook from the residence; a tablet; three cell phones, including a sealed one that would be raffled off by the suspect, a purse and a luxury brand coat, jewelry, a simulacrum firearm with charger, a trailer trailer, two luxury cars and a watercraft.
