Influencers are arrested for advertising gambling on the internet

Ten people, including digital influencers, were arrested on Wednesday (2) during Operation Quéfren, held in Ceará. The action aims to dismantle a criminal organization investigated for promoting, fostering and stimulating the practice of illegal games in Brazil.

The court ordered the fulfillment of 68 warrants, 13 of being arrest, 17 search and seizure, 23 vehicle search and 15 blockade of assets and values. Half of the prisoners were found in the city of Juazeiro do Norte, in the interior of Ceará.

The other five people were in three other states. The searches were conducted by police in several municipalities of Ceará, Santana de Parnaíba (SP), Cuiabá and Várzea Grande (MT) and Marabá (PA). During the operation, 14 luxury vehicles and a amount of money were seized, the value of which was not informed.

Those involved in the criminal scheme are agents of gambling platforms and digital influencers who used their own social networks to attract victims.

According to investigations of the Ceará Civil Police, the influencers, with thousands of followers, appeared on the internet playing in online casinos and featuring fictitious gains. Police found that they used a test account to deceive the followers.

Investigations indicate that the scheme was structured, with a network composed of managers, agents and influencers, who negotiated directly with illegal platform heads.

Online casinos owners are located abroad, most of them in China. The prisoners, who did not have the names disclosed, remain available to the court.
