The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation Bulletin (Fiocruz) released on Thursday (15) warns the influenza A virus, causing the flu, which became the leading cause of mortality from severe acute respiratory syndrome (SRAG) in the elderly and one of the three main causes of deaths among children.
There was also an increase in hospitalizations by influenza A in various parts of the country, with moderate levels of incidence in central-south states and in the North and Northeast regions.
In some states of the Midwest and Southeast regions, the number of SRAG cases in young children, associated with respiratory sintendic virus (VSR) has been showing signs of slowdown or even reversal.
“Nevertheless, it is not yet time to relax care in these regions, as the incidence of cases remains high or moderate,” says Infogipe Tatiana Portella researcher.
The expert is noteworthy that Srag mortality in young children approaches the observed in the elderly. The main cause of SRAG mortality in the elderly is the influenza A virus, followed by Covid-19. In children, VSR remains the main cause of Mortality by Srag, followed by Rinovirus and Influenza A.
Tatiana Portella guides people from the most vulnerable groups to be vaccinated against the influenza virus as soon as possible. Infogipe researchers reinforce that the vaccine is the most effective action to prevent hospitalizations and deaths caused by the disease.
“In addition, we reinforce the importance of using masks in health facilities, places with greater crowds of people and, especially, in case of the appearance of flu symptoms or cold,” warned the researcher.
SRAG CASES
The bulletin shows a sign of increasing SRAG cases in several states, both in long -term trends (last 6 weeks) and in short term (last 3 weeks). This scenario is due to the growth of SRAG in young children, mainly associated with VSR, and the population of young people, adults and the elderly, associated with the influenza A virus.
VSR maintains a significant incidence of both incidence and Mortality by SRAG in young children. Other prominent viruses in this age group are Rinovirus and Influenza A. Influenza A, besides being the main cause of Mortality by Srag among the elderly, is one of the three main reasons for SRAG deaths in young children.
States
In all, 15 of the 27 federation units have a warning, risk or high risk, with a sign of growth in the long -term trend: Acre, Amazonas, Bahia, Ceará, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, Minas Gerais, Paraná, Rio Grande do Sul, Rio de Janeiro, Rondônia, Roraima, Santa Catarina, Sao Paulo and Tocantins.
Another eight states also have SRAG incidence at alert, risk or high risk levels, but with no sign of long -term growth: Amapá, Federal District, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Maranhão, Pará, Sergipe and Rio Grande do Norte.
