The Oswaldo Cruz Foundation’s weekly newsletter (Fiocruz) released on Thursday (8) indicates an increase in hospitalizations for influenza in various locations in the country, reaching moderate to high incidence levels in some northern and south-central states and also in Ceará. The cases reach young, adults and the elderly.
Infogipe also draws attention to the high number of cases of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SRAG) in children up to 2 years old, associated with the respiratory sincial virus (VSR) in various regions of the country.
According to the newsletter, there is a sign of SRAG growth-associated SRAG growth in children, especially in the Midwest region, where the discharge of the virus began to be recorded in late February. This indication of cases was also verified in some states of the Southeast, North and Northeast.
“Despite this sign of interruption of SRAG’s growth by VSR, the incidence remains high,” says Infogipe researcher Tatiana Portella.
Mortality
According to the newsletter, even in the face of SARS-COV-2 (COVID-19) SRAG in the country, the virus has been the leading cause of mortality among the elderly in recent weeks, followed by influenza A. at the national level, there is a slowdown or interruption of the growth of the syndrome among children up to 2 years old.
In children and adolescents from 2 to 14 years, the number of new cases of SRAG remains falling, but in the population of youth, adults and the elderly, they are still growing.
Masks
Tatiana Portella recommends the use of masks in closed places and within health posts. In case of symptoms, the orientation is to stay at home in isolation. If it is not possible, it is indicated that people leave home wearing mask.
“Finally, we asked people from groups who have not yet vaccinated against the influenza to be vaccinated as soon as possible,” concluded the researcher of Infogipe.
States and capital
According to the Infogipe edition released today, 13 of the 27 Brazilian states have an incidence of SRAG at alert, risk or high risk, with a sign of growth in the long -term trend: Amapá; Bahia; Ceará; Mato Grosso do Sul; Minas Gerais; Paraná; To; Rio Grande do Sul; Rio de Janeiro; Rondônia; Santa Catarina; Sao Paulo and Tocantins.
