Initial claims for unemployment benefit drop more than expected to 326,000

The U.S. Department of Labor reported that Initial claims for unemployment benefits fell by 38,000 in the week ended October 2 to 326,000, figure that was below the 348,000 of the market consensus. The amount is just above the 2021 low of 312,000 five weeks ago.

For their part, continued subsidy requests decreased by 97,000 to 2,714,000, in the week ended September 25, a number lower than the 2,780,000 expected by analysts and the lowest since March 2020.

The dollar it rose after unemployment benefit claims data, cutting previous losses. These figures are in addition to the best expected on Wednesday from the ADP report, which raises expectations for what will be tomorrow the publication of the official employment report with the numbers of the nonfarm payrolls (consensus: 488,000) and the unemployment rate (5.1%).
