Initial claims for unemployment benefit fall more than expected to lows since March 2020

The U.S. Department of Labor reported that Initial claims for unemployment benefits fell by 10,000 in the week ended October 23, to 281,000, down from the 290,000 expected. It is the lowest level since March 2020 and the fourth consecutive weekly drop.

The continued unemployment benefit claims they fell by 237,000 in the week ended October 16 to 2,243,000, significantly below the 2.41 million market consensus. It is the lowest level since March 2020.

Together with this data, the first estimate of GDP growth for the third quarter was released. The figures did not have a significant impact on the dollar, which remained in the previous ranges.

The Existing Home Sales Report and the Kansas Fed Manufacturing Index will be released later on Thursday. Next week will be the meeting of the Federal Reserve.
