Initial claims for unemployment benefits fall more than expected to 444,000, new low in more than a year

The Department of Labor reported that Initial claims for unemployment benefits were reduced by 34,000 to 444,000 in the week ending May 15, the lowest level since mid-March last year. The data was better than the market consensus which was for 450,000.

The continued orders, they had an increase of 111,000 in the week ended May 8, to 3,751,000. The figure was above the 3.64 million expected.

The dollar the market declined moderately, as a result of a fall in Treasury bond yields. At the same time, the Philly Fed report was released, showing numbers below expectations.
