Initial jobless claims fall to 184,000

  • Initial requests for unemployment benefits fall to 184,000 against the 180,000 consensus.
  • Continued petitions drop to the lowest level since February 1970.
  • The dollar without reaction after the data.

The US Department of Labor reported that initial claims for unemployment benefits they fell by 2,000 in the week ended April 16 to 184,000, slightly above the 180,000 market consensus.

The continued claims for unemployment benefit they decreased by 58,000 in the week ended April 9 to 1,417,000, lower than the 1,455,000 expected. It is the lowest reading since 1970.

The dollar did not have a great reaction after the data. At the same time, the Philly Fed was also published and later it will be the turn of the consumer confidence index (Conference Board).
