The US Department of Labor reported that Initial jobless claims fell by 5,000 in the week ending April 2 to 166,000, from the revised number from 202,000 to 171,000. The reading is the same as the low of two weeks ago, which are the lowest figures since the late 1960s. The published report incorporates revisions to the series.
Without making adjustments, initial orders were 193,137 in the aforementioned week, which compares with 668,346 in the same week of 2021.
In regards to the continued orders, increased by 17,000 to 1,523,000 in the week ending March 26. The data was worse than expected which was a reading of 1,311,000. The previous week’s data was revised from 1,307,000 to 1,506,000.
The dollar was not affected by the data. The DXY it is in negative territory, retreating from highs since May 2020. For their part, Treasury bond yields remain at highs in years.
