The Department of Labor reported that Initial jobless claims increased by 19,000 in the week ending April 30 to 200,000, figure higher than the 182,000 of the market consensus. It is the highest level since mid-February.
The continued claims for unemployment benefit were down 19,000 in the week ending April 23 to 1,384,000, less than the 1,400,000 expected by analystsand the lowest since February 1970.
On Friday it will be the turn of the official employment report for April. The market consensus is for an increase in non-farm payrolls of 391.00 and for the unemployment rate to go from 3.6% to 3.5%.
