Initial requests for unemployment benefits fall less than expected to lows in one year

The weekly jobless claims report showed figures that were worse than expected. The Department of Labor reported that Initial claims for unemployment benefits were reduced by 13,000 to 553,000, in the week ending April 24. Although the data was higher than the market consensus of 549,000, it is the lowest reading since March 2020 and the third consecutive weekly decline.

The continued subsidy requests, they increased by 9,000 in the week ended April 17 to 3,660,000, above the 3,590,000 expected. It is the first weekly increase in months.

The official employment report with non-farm payrolls will be published next week. On Thursday it was also known that the US economy expanded more than expected, 1.6% in the first quarter. The dollar fell in the market after the data.
