The United States Department of Labor reported that Initial jobless claims increased by 11,000 in the week ending March 5 to 227,000, a figure higher than the 216,000 market consensus.
The continued orders had an increase of 25,000 in the week ended February 26 to 1,494,000, a number above the 1,339,000 expected by the average of analyst estimates. It is the highest reading in the last three weeks.
At the same time, retail inflation figures for February were released. The dollar lost ground after the economic figures at a modest pace. Meanwhile, in Europe, Christine Lagarde, the president of the European Central Bank (ECB) is holding a press conference after the Governing Council meeting.
