Injured penguin returns to nature in Argentina after treatment

A ride-king returned to its natural habitat after months in rehabilitation process in the coastal city of San Clemente Del Tuyú, 330 kilometers from Buenos Aires.

The animal was found very injured in August 2024 and taken to be treated at the World Marine Foundation, which takes care of such cases.

“He arrived with deep back injuries, compatible with a dog bite,” according to veterinarian Juana Caferri.

The penguin needed medical care for approximately eight months. He was accompanied by veterinarians, who took care of the treatment of injuries, offered medication and made careful monitoring of the bird.

“The rehabilitation process was long, because the penguin took some time to heal the injuries and completely recover the plumage. After a few months, we decided that the animal was ready to be reintroduced in nature,” explained the veterinarian.

At the time of release, the foundation team accompanied the penguin to the beach edge. After a moment of hesitation by the water, the animal entered the sea and began to swim. Now, he finally managed to return to nature.
