The National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) issued a warning of potential danger due to dry weather in most of Brazil this Monday, 22. Relative humidity should vary between 20% and 30% throughout the Center-West and in parts of the North, Northeast, Southeast and South regions.
Some areas are expected to experience even lower humidity levels, with risks of forest fires and health risks. The most affected states will be Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, with their capitals within the alert area, which also includes parts of the states of São Paulo, Minas Gerais, Goiás and Rondônia.
In these areas, relative humidity should be between 12% and 20% between 2pm and 5pm, according to Inmet. Dry weather is a health concern, as it is linked to a higher incidence of respiratory diseases and other problems, such as discomfort in the eyes, mouth and nose, as well as dry skin.
The low humidity is related to the passage of a large mass of dry air through Brazil, which has been responsible for the rise in temperatures mainly in the Center-West and North of the country.
