According to The Elec, Apple has entered into a deal with a new supplier of periscope camera components for future iPhone smartphones. South Korean company Jahwa Electronics said it plans to spend $155 million to build a plant to produce new camera components with optical image stabilization.
Apple visited Jahwa Electronics back in the first half of 2021, and now sources confirm that the manufacturer will be shipping important iPhone camera parts from next year. The camera of the iPhone 15 smartphone will receive the long-awaited periscope module with optical image stabilization.
Rumors that the iPhone will receive a periscope camera have been circulating since the beginning of 2020. Renowned analyst Ming-Chi Kuo originally suggested that such a camera could appear in the iPhone 14 Pro, but now he says that such an innovation was postponed until the release of the iPhone 15 Pro. Another analyst, Jeff Pu, agrees with him.
The main innovation of the iPhone 14 Pro will be the abandonment of the bangs in favor of two smaller cutouts, as well as the possible transition from a 12-megapixel image sensor in the main camera to a 48-megapixel sensor.
