Russia says Ukraine used US weapons against prisoners of war

On the morning of July 29, just hours after more than 50 Ukrainian POWs were killed in a detention center in the Donetsk region, a Russian reporter at the scene displayed the remains of a HIMARS, an advanced rocket system, made in the United States. .

It was the beginning of a Russian media offensive, with a message as cynical as it was brutal. Ukraine, according to Moscow’s version of events, killed its own soldiers with a HIMARS rocket attack because it didn’t want them to confess to war crimes and to discourage other soldiers from surrendering.

A high-ranking official of the Russian-backed and self-declared People’s Republic of Donetsk (DPR), Eduard Basurin, stated that “after the Ukrainian prisoners of war started talking about the crimes they committed on the orders of the Ukrainian political authorities, an explosion hit here”.
