Inside Out 2 Beats There’s Another Tomorrow: It’s a Box Office Record

In just three weeks of programming Inside Out 2, Pixar’s new film has managed to break two records: that of most watched animated film in Italy but also the one at the box office of the last year and a half. At the time of writing, in fact, Inside Out 2 raised 37,318,683 euros in Italythus beating the highest Italian box office of 2023, namely There is still tomorrowthe directorial debut film by Paola Cortellesi which collected 36,737,102 euros. The film about emotions has surpassed Barbiewhich stopped at 32.1 million euros, and is slowly approaching Avatar – The Way of Waterwhich in 2022 closed the box office at 44.8 million euros.

Waiting for Despicable Me 4which will hit theaters on August 21st and could be a flop, two things are clear: that Inside Out 2 – the first chapter had grossed 25 million in Italy and over 800 in the rest of the world – has hit the right gear and, above all, that Italians, in the presence of a strong title, crowd the cinemas even in summer. In fact, it has been a long time since distributors and exhibitors have bet on the sector from June to September, as if all spectators were going on holiday for such a long time.

Yet, if you remember, Italy was one of the very few countries in the world not to host the famous Barbenheimerconsidering that Universal Pictures had considered delaying the release of Oppenheimer in Italy precisely to avoid the risk that people would not go to see it in the summer. Perhaps, at this point, it would be a good idea to give more confidence to both the public and the cinema, they could surprise us.
