“Inside Out 2” Becomes Highest-Grossing Animated Film of All Time

If there’s one emotion Disney and Pixar are probably feeling right now, it’s joy. That’s because “Inside Out 2” became the highest-grossing animated film of all time, grossing $1.46 billion at the global box office and dethroning the former record holder “Frozen 2” 2019, according to Disney.

The title is providing a much-needed boost to Hollywood, which has had a slow start to the summer film season and is still dealing with the effects of last year’s writers’ and actors’ strikes.

The sequel to “Inside Out” hit theaters last month and crossed the $1 billion mark just 19 days after its release — the fastest ever for an animated film. It’s currently in its sixth week of theatrical release in the United States and has already become the 13th highest-grossing film of all time.

“From Europe to Asia, from the Middle East to the US, you see incredible, record-breaking numbers for a film,” he said. Daniel Loria editorial director of Box Office Pro, which collects sales and showtime data from thousands of movie theaters around the world.

“It’s definitely a huge success story, not just for theaters here in the United States, but all over the world,” he added.

The film has already made history in the Americas, quickly becoming the highest-grossing film in Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Chile and Uruguay. And Loria predicts the film could end its theatrical run with even bigger numbers as it prepares to open in Japan next week, having already enjoyed success in Asia-Pacific, grossing $84 million after just 12 days of release.

“This has really breathed new life into the global box office and reestablished a momentum we haven’t seen since the ‘Barbenheimer’ craze last summer,” said Box Office Pro’s editorial director.

The excitement surrounding the release of “Inside Out 2” comes after the film industry had a slow start to the summer movie season.

“The record-breaking performance of ‘Inside Out 2’ was hugely important for theaters as the film moved forward and changed the mood of an industry that, at the time of the film’s release, was seeing a summer movie season that was largely a box office bust,” said Paul Dergarabedian senior media analyst at Comscore.

Last year’s Northern Hemisphere summer saw blockbusters “Barbie” It is “Oppenheimer” together they added almost US$ 2 billion (around R$ 11.3 billion), according to data from Comscore.
