State deputy Gabriel Souza (MDB-RS) told the CNN that he does not intend to give up the pre-candidacy for the government of Rio Grande do Sul, which could hinder a national alliance between the MDB and PSDB for the dispute for the presidential succession.
This Tuesday (7), the national president of the MDB, Baleia Rossi, asked the leader of the party in Rio Grande do Sul, Fábio Branco, to advance in talks with the PSDB for a regional alliance.
The PSDB put as one of the conditions for supporting the presidential candidacy of senator Simone Tebet (MDB-MS) that the MDB give up its own candidacy for the Gaucho government and support the name of former Tucano governor Eduardo Leite.
“I do not intend to give up the candidacy. I don’t have any kind of change plan and I follow a candidate agenda,” Souza told CNN.
“The request to me is unproductive, because this matter belongs to the MDB community,” he added. Souza stated that he was chosen by the party’s state directorate and that he has the almost unanimous support of the party in Rio Grande do Sul.
“In two months, I have already traveled to 80 municipalities in the state of Rio Grande do Sul. We are the largest party in the state and we have governed Rio Grande do Sul four times,” he said.
The PSDB established until Wednesday (8) the deadline for an agreement with the MDB in state platforms. In addition to Rio Grande do Sul, considered a kind of “balancer”, the toucans want a counterpart from the emedebistas in Pernambuco and Minas Gerais.
For Thursday (9), the national executive of the party scheduled a meeting to define whether she will support Simone Tebet or if she will have her own candidacy this year.
wanted by CNN the MDB has not yet positioned itself.
