Inspection against fraud in driving schools and CFC’s grows 45%, says Detran

The inspection by the State Department of Traffic of São Paulo (Detran-SP) on irregular activities of regulated agents and driving schools, in 2024, grew more than 45% compared to the previous year .

The survey carried out by Detran-SP, which CNN had early access, points out that the main focus of the inspection was directed at practical exam boards for people to ‘get their license’, which registered an increase of 337%, jumping from 83 operations in 2023 to 363 in 2024.

Among the actions, a driving school in Taboão da Serra, in Greater São Paulo, was caught with 700 ‘silicone fingers’ templates used to defraud the biometric control system, allowing candidates to have their presence confirmed in classes and exams without actually appearing.

Increased inspection aims to curb irregularities in various stages of the vehicle licensing and regularization process, issues such as “buy the card” and other types of fraud .

Accredited inspection companies came in second place, with a 140% growth in operations, totaling 1,713 actions in 2024. Inspection actions were also expanded in driver training centers (CFCs), doctors and psychologists linked to the inspection process. qualification, with increases of 29%, 56% and 42%, respectively.

Osasco, the capital of São Paulo, Campinas, São José do Rio Preto and Bauru also registered significant increases in the number of inspection actions. Campinas, for example, had an increase of more than 514% in inspections at stamping and registration companies.

The more than 9,600 inspection actions in 2024 resulted in 717 sanctions against agents regulated by Detran-SP including 110 police reports, 235 suspensions of activities and 120 revocations of registrations.

Furthermore, Detran-SP expanded the siege against stunt vehicles and dismantling companies, with operations that resulted in the seizure of illegal parts and auto parts that may be linked to crimes.
